As President John F. Kennedy accelerated the Space Race in the early 1960s, so grew the appetite for a science and engineering-focused university near Cape Canaveral. As a result, Florida Technical University was approved and founded in 1963, as the state’s Board of Regents bought property along the Space Coast to build their university.
